Who We Are

James Guarino, AIA, BSA, NCARB

Project Architect

With expertise in both design and production, James loves seeing the shape of buildings materialize and spaces come alive. At SGA, he works on projects ranging from ground-up construction to renovations and improvements. Although he specializes in higher education, he has amassed a portfolio that also encompasses commercial buildings, mixed-use properties, and other facilities.

Before joining SGA, James served as a project architect at DRA Architects in Waltham. He spent a total of 20 years there with a break between 2005 and 2009 when he worked as a construction administrator at Cannon Design.

Mentoring has been a hallmark of James’ career. He reviews and provides feedback on student portfolios for Boston Architectural College several times a year, and he advises students at Quinsigamond Community College who wish to study architecture. James’ commitment to the profession also prompted him to serve on several NCARB committees in developing the ARE 5.0.

James earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Boston Architectural College. A licensed FAA commercial airplane and drone pilot, he still flies frequently. His other pursuits include traveling, visiting architectural landmarks, eating good food, and drinking good wine, all of which inspire frequent visits to France. He also enjoys motorcycle trips to places along the East Coast Volunteerism takes up the remainder of his spare time: In addition to his mentoring, he serves as a member of the Historic District Commission for the Town of Sherborn.
